CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 240-228 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 22 mm, 6.38 g, 10 h). XΩΠYPIΩN Nude youth riding horse galloping to right; below, ΣΩ above boukranion. Rev. TAPAΣ Youthful oikist, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding hippocamp in his right hand and trident in his left; to upper right, mask of silenos above ET. HN Italy 1054. Vlasto 941. Rare. A beautiful, fresh and lustrous coin of wonderful style. Minor areas of weakness, otherwise, virtually as struck.
