Description

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 280-272 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 19 mm, 6.50 g, 7 h). Nude rider on horse galloping to right, stabbing with spear held in his right hand and holding two other spears and shield in his left; to upper left, ΓΥ; below, API/ΣTI/Π. Rev. TAPAΣ Youthful oikist, nude, riding dolphin to right, holding arrow in his right hand and bow in his left; below, ΔI and elephant walking right. HN Italy 999. Vlasto 712. Nicely toned. Struck on a somewhat short flan, otherwise, very fine.
