Drachm (Silver, 33 mm, 4.11 g, 3 h), Arab-Sasanian type, DA (Darabjird), frozen year AH 43 (struck circa AH 50-53 / AD 670-673). Crowned and draped Sasanian-style bust to right; behind head, AFZUT GDH ('may his kingship increase' in Pahlawi); before head, ZYYAT Y / ABWSPYYAN ('Ziyad ibn Abi Sufyan' in Pahlawi); in outer margin, 'bism Allah' ('In the name of Allah' in Arabic). Rev. Sasanian fire altar set on three steps, flanked by two attending priests (mabedh) standing facing; above altar, star and crescent; to left, date; to right, mint ('DA' in Pahlawi). SICA I, 240. Beautifully toned. Slightly bent along one edge, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
