Description

L. Calpurnius Piso Frugi, 90 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 4.09 g, 8 h), Rome. Laureate head of Apollo to right; behind K; below chin, K. Rev. L•PISO FRVGI / XXXVIIII Horseman galloping right, holding palm frond over his left shoulder. Babelon (Calpurnia) 11. Crawford 340/1. RBW 1251ff var. (differing control marks). Sydenham 663e. A beautifully toned piece. Minor die break on the obverse and with a tiny mark on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.

From an old Swiss collection, formed in the early 20th century (with collector's ticket).
