★ An extremely rare half stater from the Caleti with a wonderful reverse ★
CELTIC, Northeast Gaul. Caleti. 2nd century BC. Half Stater (Electrum, 15 mm, 3.26 g, 7 h), 'type nord-armoricain - à la roue'. Celticized laureate male head to right, with long curls and wheel on cheek. Rev. Celticized horseman to right, holding spear in his right hand; floral ornament emerging from the head of the horse; below horse, wheel; in exergue, imitative legend devolved into ornamented ground line. DT 101 var. (with double crescent below forelegs of the horse but without floral ornament on its head). LT -. SLM -. Extremely rare. A lovely issue with an incredibly charming reverse. The obverse struck from a somewhat worn die and with light marks, otherwise, about extremely fine.
