★ A superb stater from the Aulerci Cenomani ★
CELTIC, Northwest Gaul. Aulerci Cenomani. 2nd century BC. Stater (Gold, 21 mm, 7.65 g, 4 h), 'aux objets ovoides - personnage aux deux ailes' type. Celticized laureate head of Apollo to right, the hair in long curls with a strand falling loose before the forehead. Rev. Devolved charioteer, driving cart drawn by a centaur to right, holding reins in his right hand and long branch ending in a vexillum-like banner in his left; below, male figure standing right, arms ending in wings. DT 2146. LT 6823. SLM -. Very rare and undoubtedly among the finest known. An absolutely wonderful and superb piece, perfectly centered on a very a broad flan and hence exceptionally complete. Very thin die break on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
