ISLAMIC, Persia (Pre-Seljuq). Kakwayhids. Faramurz, AH 433-443 / AD 1041-1051. Dinar (Gold, 24 mm, 3.85 g, 5 h), Isbahan (Isfahan), AH 435 = AD 1043/4. Citing the Seljuq Tughril Beg (AH 429-455 / AD 1038-1063) as overlord, ‘lā ilāha illā Allāh / waḥdahū lā sharīka lahū / al-sulṭān al-muʿaẓẓam / Ṭughril Bik’ (‘There is no deity but Allah, the One, there is no partner to Him. The Great Sultan Tughril Beg’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘bism Allāh ḍuriba hādhā al-dīnār bi Iṣbahān sana khams wa thalāthīn wa arbaʿa miʾa’ (‘In the name of Allah. This dinar was struck in Isbahan in the year 435’ in Arabic). Rev. Citing the ʿAbbasid caliph al-Qaʾim bi-amr Allah (AH 422-467/AD 1031-1075), ‘Muḥammad / rasūl Allāh / al-Qāʾim bi-amr Allāh / al-amīr Farāmarz’ (‘Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. al-Qaʾim bi-amr Allah. Amir Faramarz’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘Muḥammad rasūl Allāh arsalahū bi al-hudā wa dīn al-ḥaqq liyuẓhirahū ʿalā al-dīn kullih wa law kariha al-mushrikūn’ (‘Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth, so that He may make it overcome all religions, even though the unbelievers may dislike it’ in Arabic). Album 1592.2.
