Description

★ The king's name inscribed over the arm of Apollo ★

SELEUKID KINGS. Antiochos III ‘the Great’, 222-187 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 17.14 g, 12 h), ΔI mint, after circa 197. Diademed head of Antiochos III to right, below neck, ΔI. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - ANTIOXOY Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding arrow in his right hand and resting his left on grounded bow; in exergue, ΔI. SC 1113.3. Fresh and attractive. Struck from a somewhat worn obverse die, otherwise, virtually as struck.

Ex Leu Web Auction 29, 24-26 February 2024, 1093 and from a European collection, formed before 2005.

An interesting detail about this coin is that the the royal name is inscribed over the arm of Apollo.
