Description

NORTHWEST GAUL. Baiocassi. Circa 50-30 BC. Hemistater (Silver, 22 mm, 3.89 g, 9 h). Celticized head of Apollo to right, surmounted by a boar and with strings of pearls coming out of his own head. Rev. Devolved charioteer, driving cart drawn by a centaur to right, holding reins with his right hand and long branch ending in a vexillum-like banner in his left; below, boar standing right. DT 2259 var. (stater). LT 6967-9 var. (stater). Some cleaning scratches and the obverse struck somewhat off center, otherwise, very fine.
