★ A lovely shield decoration ★
Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 17 mm, 2.95 g, 9 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Siscia. Irregular mint, after 318. Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Constantine I to left, holding spear over his right shoulder and shield decorated with a horseman on his left; around, imitative legend. Rev. Two victories standing facing each other and holding shield inscribed VI/TT over altar; around, imitative legend and mintmark. Somewhat smoothed and with minor traces of cleaning, otherwise, good very fine.
From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.
This coin is a notable imitation of Constantine's 'VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP' Danubian type coinage, struck from 318 in Siscia. It copies coins such as RIC 50, which occasionally feature a horseman on the shield.
