Fausta, Augusta, 324-326. Follis (Silvered bronze, 20 mm, 3.10 g, 12 h), Constantinopolis, 326. FLAV MAX FAVSTA AVG Draped bust of Fausta to right. Rev. SALVS REI PVBLICAE / CONS Fausta (or Salus), veiled, standing front, head to left, holding two children in her arms; in field to left, A. RIC 12. Some areas of flatness and with tiny spots of corrosion, otherwise, good very fine.
From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.
As a rule, in every mint, coins for Helena and Fausta were struck in equal number. Today, however, coins of Fausta from Constantinople are rarer than those of Helena. Ramskold (Aborted production [2020b]) postulated that coins for Fausta were withdrawn from circulation after her death as part of her subsequent damnatio memoriae.
