Mark Antony, 44-30 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.60 g, 12 h), with Lucius Antony and M. Cocceius Nerva, quaestor pro praetore. Ephesus, summer 41. [M•AN]T•I MP AV G III VIR•R•P C M NE RVA•PRO[Q•P] Bare head of Mark Antony to right. Rev. L•ANTONIVS COS Bare head of Lucius Antony to right. Babelon (Antonia) 48 and (Cocceia) 2. Crawford 517/5a. RBW 1799. Sydenham 1185. Some striking weakness and a faint scratch on the reverse, otherwise, good fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

Lucius Antony supported his older brother Mark in various commands in the turbulent years following Caesar's assassination and even celebrated a triumph for his victory against Alpine tribes in 41 BC. In 40 BC, Octavian appointed Lucius as governor of Spain, but he subsequently disappears from all sources, indicating that he died soon thereafter.
