★ Apparently the second and finest known known example ★
THRACO-MACEDONIAN REGION. Uncertain. Late 6th-5th century. Drachm (?) (Silver, 17 mm, 6.50 g). Wheel with four spokes. Rev. Rough incuse square. Classical Numismatic Group 103 (2016), 112. Rosen -. Tzamalis -, cf. 77 (hemiobol). Of the highest rarity, apparently the second and finest known known example. Some horn silver and minor traces of corrosion, otherwise, very fine.
From a Swiss collection, formed before 2005.
This extremely rare coin type is reminiscent of the famous 'Wappenmünzen' from Athens. However, the distinctive reverse incuse and the unusual weight standard suggest an origin from the Thracian-Macedonian region.
