Description

★ A very rare imitative Damastion tetradrachm ★

LOWER DANUBE. Uncertain tribe. Circa 4th-3rd centuries BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 12.93 g, 1 h), imitating Damastion. Celticized laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. Stylized tripod with legs ending in lion's feet, set on base; to left and right, imitative legend. Dembski -, cf. 1536-7. Flesche -. Lanz -. May, Damastion, -. OTA -. SLM -. Lightly toned. Very rare and of very abstract style, a beautiful piece. Slightly granular, otherwise, very fine.
