Description

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 280-272 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 6.34 g, 8 h), Zo..., Zalo... and Anth..., magistrates. Nude youth riding horse walking to right, raising his right hand to crown himself; below, ΖΑΛΟ above Ionic capital; above ΖΩ. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΣ Youthful oikist, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding aphlaston in his right hand and distaff in his left; above to right, ΑΝΘ. HGC 2, HN Italy 1014. Vlasto 804. Struck from worn dies, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of the renowned Swiss architect Max Vogt (1925-2019), privately acquired from Schweizerische Kreditanstalt Monetarium on 9 October 1995.
