Within a quadrilobe, ‘Yūsuf’ (in Arabic); two birds and two swastikas around; in the margin, ‘bism Allāh ḍuriba hādhā al-fals bi al-Shāsh sana thalāth wa arbaʿa miʾa’ (‘In the name of Allah. This fals was struck in al-Shash in the year 403’ in Arabic). Rev. ‘li-llāh / Muḥammad / rasūl / Allāh’ (‘To Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah’ in Arabic); citing Ahmad ibn Ali (AH 384-407 / AD 994-1016) as Tungha Qara Kaghan Ahmad in the margin, ‘mimmā amara bihī al-amīr Ṭunghā Qarā Khāqān Aḥmad’ (‘From that ordered by the Amir Tungha Qara Kaghan Ahmad’ in Arabic).
