PERSIA, Achaemenid Empire. Time of Darios I to Xerxes II, circa 485-420 BC. Daric (Gold, 15 mm, 8.38 g), Lydo-Milesian standard, Sardes. Persian king or hero in kneeling/running stance to right, holding spear in his right hand and bow in his left. Rev. Oblong irregular incuse. BMC Arabia pl. XXIV, 26. Carradice Type IIIb A/B (pl. XIII, 27). Sunrise 24. A beautiful and unusually detailed example. Struck from slightly worn dies, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
