Description

Anonymous, 11th century. Seal (Lead, 29 mm, 15.58 g, 12 h). Facing, nimbate busts of two military saints, each holding spear and shield. Rev. Facing, nimbate busts of two church hierarchs, raising their right hands in benediction and holding book of Gospels in their left. Unpublished in the standard references. A rare and impressive seal showing two double portraits of saints. Minor traces of corrosion and with a scuff on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
