John III Ducas (Vatatzes), emperor of Nicaea, 1222-1254. Tetarteron (Bronze, 2.55 g), Magnesia. Facing bust of St. George, holding spear in his right hand and shield in his left; in field to left, A in circle; in field to right, monogram of ⲰP. Rev. IⲰ / ΔHC/Π/O Δ/OY/K/A/C John III standing facing, holding labarum in his right hand and akakia in his left. DOC 58. SB 2116. Good very fine.
