LOCAL ISSUES, Chach. Uncertain ruler, 7th-8th century. Cash (Bronze, 19 mm, 1.38 g). Lion advancing to left. Rev. The tamgha of Chach; illegible legend around containing the word ‘xwβw’, i.e. ‘xūβu’ (‘king’ in Sogdian). Smirnova 1551. Some weakness and porosity, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of Dr. D. Löer, privately acquired from Ancient Coins Canada.

Such readings as ‘trnβc’, ‘trnβn’, ‘tkʾyn’, and ‘sck’ for the name of the king on this type of coin are all illusionary and wrong.
