Description

CELTIC, Lower Danube. Imitations of Thasos. Late 2nd-1st century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 33 mm, 15.85 g, 11 h). Celticized head of Dionysos to right, wearing wreath of ivy. Rev. HΛIΛEOVZ - ZIITHIOZ / OΛZIΩN Herakles standing front, head to left, holding club with his right hand and lion skin draped over his left arm; in inner left field, I. Dembski 1517 ( same dies ). Lanz -. OTA Class III. Flesche -. Very well struck on a broad flan and of charming style. The flan somewhat wavy as usual , otherwise, extremely fine.
