CELTIC, Northeast Gaul. Remi. Late 2nd to mid 1st century BC. Stater (Gold, 16 mm, 6.26 g, 6 h), 'à l'oeil' type. Devolved and disjointed laureate male head to right; before, three stars. Rev. Celticized horse galloping to left, horseman transformed into V-shaped figure within heart-shaped ornament; below, pellet-within-annulet within circle of pearls over two lines of pearls; around to left and right, four stars. DT 173 var. (no lines of pearls) and 174 var. (no stars on the reverse). LT 8799 var. (one star each on the obverse and the reverse). An apparently unpublished variety. Nicely toned and clear, an interesting and most attractive piece. About extremely fine.
