Description

★ Fresh, lustrous and exceptionally attractive ★

KINGS OF THRACE. Lysimachos, 305-281 BC. Stater (Gold, 19 mm, 8.50 g, 12 h), Byzantion, circa 210-195. Diademed head of Alexander the Great to right, with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated left, holding Nike, crowning the king's name, in her right hand and leaning with her left arm on shield decorated with gorgoneion; behind, transverse spear; in inner left field, monogram of NK; on throne, BY; in exergue, filleted trident to left. Marinescu Group V, Issue 88, 201 (O76/R193) = SNG Copenhagen 1086 ( same dies ). Müller 149. Very rare. A fresh, lustrous and exceptionally attractive piece of bold Hellenistic style. The obverse struck slightly off center and with a few striation marks in the die on Alexander's cheek, otherwise, virtually as struck.
