Description

Constantine II, as Caesar, 316-337. Follis (Bronze, 17 mm, 2.05 g, 4 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Rome. Uncertain mint in Gaul (?), circa 333-340 (?). Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine II to left. Rev. CONSTAN/TINVS / IVN NOB C / SMRT in four lines; above, laurel wreath. Cf. RIC 282 (for prototype). Ramskold, Constantine's vicennalia (2013), p. 425, fig. 6C ( this coin ). An unusually fine contemporary imitation. Minor traces of corrosion on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

The reverse legend faithfully copies RIC 282.
