Description

INDIA, Mauryan Empire. Chandragupta, late 4th century-circa 297 BC. Karshapana (Silver, 15x17 mm, 3.38 g). Five punches, including sun symbol, six-armed symbol with arrows and taurines, three arched hill, temple and quadruped holding small object in his mouth. Rev. Blank with countermark. Gupta & Hardaker, series Va, 482. A beautiful and sharp piece. A few light marks, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Prof. Dr. Björn-Uwe Abels, privately acquired from Robert Senior in 1982.
