Description

Elagabalus, 218-222. Denarius (Silver, 20 mm, 3.13 g, 6 h), Rome, 221-222. IMP ANTONINVS PIVS AVG Laureate and draped bust of Elagabalus to right, wearing 'horn' over forehead. Rev. SACERD DEI SOLIS ELAGAB Elagabalus standing left, sacrificing with patera in his right hand over lighted and garlanded altar and holding branch in his left; in field to right, eight-pointed star. BMC 225. Cohen 246. RIC 131. Thirion 302. Lightly toned. Slightly rough and struck somewhat off center, otherwise, very fine.
