★ A very rare follaro of John V Palaeologus ★

John V Palaeologus (?), 1341-1391. Follaro (Bronze, 16 mm, 1.48 g, 12 h), uncertain mint (Constantinopolis?), circa 1379-1391. Half-length figure of emperor facing, wearing crown and chlamys, holding scepter cruciger in his right hand and anexikakia in his left; in field to right, IⲰ. Rev. Four B's and groups of three pellets in the angles of a cross. CNG 54 (2000), 1954 = The Christov Family Collection, Ira & Larry Goldberg 55 (2009), 628. DOC -. LBC -. PCPC 384. SB -. Very rare. Repatinated, otherwise, very fine.
