Description

★ A well centered denarius of L. Censorinus ★

L. Censorinus, 82 BC. Denarius (Silver, 17 mm, 3.88 g, 6 h), Rome. Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. L•CENSOR Marsyas, bald-headed, standing to left, raising his right arm and holding wine-skin over his left shoulder; behind him, column surmounted by small statue of Minerva. Babelon (Marcia) 24. Crawford 363/1d. RBW 1372. Sydenham 737. Well centered and beautifully toned. Minor corrosion on the obverse, otherwise, good very fine.

From an American collection of Roman Republican and Imperatorial coins, privately acquired from Maison Platt (with original dealer's ticket).
