Description

C. Servilius Vatia, 127 BC. Denarius (Silver, 17 mm, 3.85 g, 4 h), Rome. Head of Roma to right, wearing winged helmet; behind, lituus; before, star (mark of value). Rev. C•SER VE IL Battle on horseback between two warriors; the warrior on the right is holding a shield inscribed with M in his left hand. Babelon (Marcia) 12. Crawford 293/1. RBW 1069. Sydenham 483. Minor marks and with a few nicks, otherwise, about very fine.

From an American collection of Roman Republican and Imperatorial coins, privately acquired from R. Freeman at the New York International Numismatic Convention in 2002 (with collector's ticket).
