Description

CELTIC, Lower Danube. Imitations of Thasos. Late 2nd-1st century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 16.18 g, 1 h). Celticized head of Dionysos to right, wearing ivy-wreath. Rev. HΡAKΛEOΥΣ - ΣΩTHΡOΣ / ΘAΣIΩN Herakles standing front, head to left, holding club with his right hand and lion skin draped over his left arm; in inner left field, A. Dembski 1507. Lanz -. OTA Class II. Struck from a worn obverse die and with some minor marks , otherwise, very fine.
