Gulden 1704 (Silver, 38 mm, 17.17 g, 12 h), Würzburg. ✱ LVDOVI GVILELM D G MARCH BA & H L S & O C S & E D R B L & M K Cuirassed bust of Ludwig Wilhelm to right. Rev. MONETA NOVA ARGENT BADEN Crowned arms between 1704 - IPB. Davenport 237. Wielandt 327. Rare. Nicely toned and unusually well preserved for this difficult issue. About extremely fine.

From the collection of Dr. Max Blaschegg (1930-2021, with collector’s ticket), privately acquired from Münzen & Medaillen AG on 3 June 1996.

Ludwig Wilhelm was an extremely capable and successful general, and the chief commander of the Imperial army in the late 17th and early 18th century. His various victories against the Ottomans earned him the nickname 'Türkenlouis' ('Turkish Louis').
