Description

M. Junius Silanus, 145 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.24 g, 2 h), Rome. Head of Roma to right, wearing winged helmet, pendant earring and pearl necklace; behind, head of an ass left; below chin, X (mark of value). Rev. Μ•IVNI / ROMA The Dioscuri, each holding spear, on horseback galloping right. Babelon (Junia) 8. Crawford 220/1. RBW 944. Sydenham 408. Some pitting and with a scrape on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of Dr. Max Blaschegg (1930-2021, with collector’s ticket), privately acquired from Dorotheum in November 1945.
