KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 33 mm, 16.47 g, 1 h), Mesambria, circa 225-175. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩ[Σ] - AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, crested helmet to right; below throne, ΛΑ. HGC 3, 1567. Price 1029. Darkly toned and struck on a broad flan. Light doubling on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.
