★ A rare stater from Veneti ★
NORTHWEST GAUL. Veneti. 2nd century BC. Stater (Gold, 21 mm, 7.47 g, 3 h). Celticized head of Apollo to right, with strings of pearls ending in miniature human heads coming out of his own head; below, elaborate drapery resembling aegis. Rev. Devolved charioteer, driving cart drawn by a centaur to left, holding reins in his right hand and long branch ending in a vexillum-like banner in his left; below, winged male figure to right. DT 2108. LT 6879 var. (boar on obverse). Rare. Some scuffs and the obverse struck from a heavily worn die, otherwise, about very fine.
