Description

KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 17.00 g, 1 h), Odessos. Eupro..., magistrate, circa 225-200. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. ΒAΣIΛEΩΣ - AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; in inner left field, monogram of ΟΔΗ; in exergue, ΕΥΠΡΟ. HGC 3.2, 1584. Price -, cf. 1174 (monogram below throne). Topalov, Odesos, -, cf. 59 (monogram below throne). Very rare and with beautiful iridescent toning. Minor marks, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From a German collection, formed in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
