Description

Ti. Minucius C.f. Augurinus, 134 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.69 g, 7 h), Rome. Head of Roma to right, wearing winged helmet, pendant earring and pearl necklace; behind, star (mark of value). Rev. RO-MA Spiral column with Aeolic capital, decorated with two grain-ears at the base; on column, figure standing front, head to left, holding long staff with his right hand; to left of column, togate figure standing to right, holding uncertain object (loaves?) with both hands and placing his left food on prow of ship; to right of column, togate figure standing to left, holding lituus in his right hand. Babelon (Minucia) 9. Crawford 243/1. RBW 1002. Sydenham 494. Minor flan faults, otherwise, nearly very fine.
