★ A beautifully toned didrachm from Metapontion ★

LUCANIA. Metapontion. Circa 330-290 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 18 mm, 7.85 g, 7 h). Head of Demeter to right, wearing grain wreath, triple pendant earring and pearl necklace; below chin, EY. Rev. META Barley ear of seven grains with leaf to right; [Λ]Y to lower left, star above leaf. HN Italy 1592. Johnston Class C, 8. A charming example of beautiful style and with attractive iridescent toning. Minor wear on the highest points , otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

From the old stock of a Swiss Numismatist, acquired before 2005.
