Justinian I, 527-565. Solidus (Gold, 23 mm, 4.47 g, 6 h), Thessalonica, 538-545. D N IVSTINIANVS P P AVI Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Justinian facing, holding globus cruciger in his right hand and shield, decorated with cavalryman riding to right, on his left shoulder. Rev. VICTORIA AVGGG / CONOB Angel standing facing, holding long linear cross in his right hand and globe in his left; in field to right, eight-pointed star. DOC 7. MIB 22. SB 138 (attributed tentatively to Constantinopolis). Lustrous, sharp and perfectly centered on a very broad flan. Light doubling on the obverse, otherwise, virtually as struck.
