Description

UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Late 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Quinarius' (Subaeratus, 16 mm, 2.16 g, 12 h), 'Tetrarchic Roma Group D'. Imitating Maximianus, 286-305. HZO OXИƧИO Laureate head of Maximianus to right. Rev. IIƧIII IIՒ Roma (?) seated left on throne, raising both her hands; behind, scepter. Holed and with some breaks in plating, otherwise, very fine.

From the Aurum Barbarorum Collection.

It is difficult to say whether the charming reverse figure on this heavily stylized coin derives from Securitas or from Roma. Given the appearance of a long scepter behind the throne, this cataloguer is inclined to opt for the latter.
