Description

UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Late 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Quinarius' (Gold, 17 mm, 2.83 g, 12 h), 'Tetrarchic Adventus Group B'. Imitating Maximianus, 286-305. [...]ИPGVS[...] Laureate head of Maximianus to left. Rev. [...]∾ III Maximianus on horseback to right, raising his right hand in salute. Aurum Barbarorum II, 1921 var. (differing style and plated). Clipped and holed twice, otherwise, very fine.

From the Aurum Barbarorum Collection.

Unfortunately, this coin has been somewhat clipped, leaving the blundered obverse legend mostly illegible. However, given that almost all of the imitations of Tetrarchic aurei copy Maximianus, an attribution to this emperor seems probable.
