ARABIA, Eastern. Oman Peninsula. Mleiha (?). Imitations of Abi’el, daughter of Labash, circa mid 2nd century BCE. Drachm (Silver, 16 mm, 3.78 g, 8 h), imitating Alexander 'the Great' (336-323 BCE). Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. [...]𐡀𐡁𐡂𐡀𐡋𐡁𐡓 ('’by’l br[...]' in Aramaic) Male figure seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and forepart of a horse in his right; to left, palm stem. CCK 122 = Mitchinger, Trade, 1374 = Potts (Suppl.) 218 = Senior, Arabia, 8.6 = van Alfen 63a ( this coin, O2/R3, but note that the obverses and reverses of 63 and 64 have been confused on pl. 31). Extremely rare. Beautifully toned and very well centered. Somewhat rough, otherwise, very fine.
