Description

★ The finest of just six known examples ★

ARABIA, Eastern. Oman Peninsula. Mleiha (?). Abi’el, daughter of Baglan, circa 200 BCE. Drachm (Silver, 17 mm, 4.07 g, 6 h), imitating Alexander 'the Great' (336-323 BCE). Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. 𐡀𐡁𐡂𐡀𐡋 ('’by’l' in Aramaic) Male figure seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right. CCK 119 = Mitchiner, Trade, 1361 = Potts (Suppl.) 185 = Senior 5.5 = Van Alfen 385a ( this coin, O1/R1). Haerink, Abiel, 6-8. Extremely rare, the finest of just six known examples. A beautiful coin, well struck and very attractively toned. Slightly rough, otherwise, good very fine.
