Description

KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Drachm (Silver, 16 mm, 4.28 g, 1 h), Sardes, struck under Menander or Kleitos, circa 322-319/8. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. [A]ΛEΞAN[ΔPOY] Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; in field to left, torch; below throne, A. Price 2637. Struck in very high relief. Light die wear, otherwise, good extremely fine.
