★ An extremely rare denarius in the name of Augustus, pedigreed to 1932 ★

Forces of Galba in Spain. In the name of Augustus, 27 BC-AD 14. Denarius (Silver, 17 mm, 3.65 g, 5 h), uncertain mint in Spain. Group A.III, 3 April-2nd half of June 68. AVGVSTVS DIVI•F Bare head of Augustus to left. Rev. OB / CIVES / SERVAT within oak wreath. BMC 52 and pl. 51, 7 ( same obverse die ), see also 52 note ( this coin cited ). CG 161.1 ( this coin ). Cohen -. Martin A 21.1 ( this coin ). Nicolas A17.1 corr. ( this coin cited, but a differing coin shown on pl. XXI, A17 BR). RIC¹ 12 ( this coin cited ). RIC² 102. Extremely rare, one of just five known examples and the only one in private hands. A beautifully toned coin with an impressive pedigree. Light scatches on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
