★ A well struck tetradrachm of Demetrios I with a beautiful early Hellenistic portrait ★
KINGS OF MACEDON. Demetrios I Poliorketes, 306-283 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 17.22 g, 12 h), Chalkis, circa 290-287. Diademed and horned head of Demetrios I to right. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - ΔHMHTPIOY Poseidon, nude, standing left, his right foot set on a rock, holding trident in his left hand and resting his right on his right thigh; to outer left and to outer right, monograms. Antike Kunst (1967), pl. 1, 470 ( this coin ). Newell 151 corr. (obv. die CLVII, but monogram in left field misdescribed). A bright and well struck example, with a beautiful early Hellenistic portrait. The usual minor die breaks on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
