Description

LOWER DANUBE. Uncertain tribe. Circa 2nd-1st centuries BC. Drachm (Silver, 20 mm, 2.35 g, 11 h), imitating Alexander III of Macedon. Celticized head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress; in outer right field, two pellets. Rev. Celticized Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, amphora. Dembski -. Lanz -. Lukanc pl. 4, 50-1. OTA 577/2. Rare. Very light doubling on the reverse and with faint scratches, otherwise, good very fine.
