Description

SICILY. Syracuse. Hieron II, 275-215 BC. 60 Litrai or Dekadrachm (Gold, 15 mm, 4.27 g, 1 h), circa 269-263 or 218/7-215. Head of Persephone to left, wearing wreath of grain ears, pendant earring and pearl necklace; behind, wreath. Rev. IEPΩΝΟΣ Nike driving biga galloping to left, holding kentron in her right hand and reins in her left; below, E. Carroccio 76. SNG Copenhagen 817. Early die state with less die rust than usual. Minor area of smoothing on the obverse and light traces of mounting, otherwise, good very fine.
