Description

★ A splendid denarius of C. Calpurnius L.f. Frugi ★

C. Calpurnius L.f. Frugi, 67 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 4.05 g, 6 h), Rome. Laureate head of Apollo to right; behind, arrowhead upward. Rev. C PISO•L•F FRVG Naked horseman galloping right, carrying long palm; below, arrowhead to left. Babelon (Calpurnia) 24. Crawford 408/1b. RBW -. Sydenham 841. A splendid example of unusually fine style, struck in high relief from fresh dies and with full mint luster. Very minor flan fault on the reverse, otherwise, virtually as struck.
