Description

CILICIA. Tarsos. Tarkumuwa (Datames), satrap of Cilicia and Cappadocia, 384-361/0 BC. Obol (Silver, 10 mm, 0.81 g, 10 h). Diademed female head facing slightly to left, wearing pendant earrings and necklace. Rev. 𐡅𐡌𐡃𐡓𐡕 ('trkmw' in Aramaic) Bearded head of Ares (?) to left, wearing crested Attic helmet. Lanz 159 (2014), 258. SNG Levante -, cf. 89ff (anonymous). SNG Paris -, cf. 303ff (anonymous). Very rare and in exceptional condition. Sharply struck, beautifully toned and very well centered. Extremely fine.
