★ Another splendid tetradrachm of Audoleon ★

KINGS OF PAEONIA. Audoleon, circa 315-286 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.21 g, 8 h), in the name and types of Alexander III, Astibus or Damastion, circa 300-286. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, trident. CNG 84 (2010), 334 = CNG 73 (2006), 175. Price -. Triton XIV (2011), 100 var. ( same obverse die, but with a different reverse symbol). Waggoner, Further reflections on Audoleon and his Alexander mint, RBN 129 (1983), -, cf. 17 ( obverse die from the same artist ). The best of only two examples of this variety known, and from a hitherto unattested reverse die. A splendid coin, perfectly centered and with most attractive golden toning. Virtually as struck.
